A parliamentary panel on Wednesday expressed annoyance over non-regularisation of job of daily-wage teachers working under Federal Directorate of Education and decided to raise the matter again in the next session of the Senate. Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat met with Muhammad Talha Mahmood in the chair to discuss the progress over regularisation of daily-wage teachers working under the Federal Directorate of Education in the light of the recommendations of the committee and the Supreme Court verdict, dated November 14, 2016.
The committee members observed that the issue was finalised in September last but the teachers have not been regularised yet. According to the law, the matter should be resolved within 60 days. The committee summoned the Minister for Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) and other authorities concerned in the next meeting in this regard.
The chairman said that Minister CADD seems to be non-serious on the issue and the matter would be raised in the next Senate session. "The minister should think that ministry does not remain for ever. In the end issue comes to the prime minister," the chairman observed.
Senator Shahi Syed said it seems to be an issue of ego and that is why it is not being resolved. Senator Kalsoom Perveen endorsed Shahi Syed's statement. The committee members opined that privilege motion may be moved against the Prime Minister. The issue needs to be discussed with the chairman Senate as it is a matter of breach of privilege of the whole House.
Teachers' representatives burst into tears while narrating their situation. They said that they had not been paid salaries for the last three months and they are planning to boycott classes from Thursday (today). The committee decided to send notices to principal secretary to prime minister and finance minister with respect to non-regularisation of daily wages teachers for the next meeting.
The committee also discussed the working of Gun and Country Club and the issues of its employees. The chairman asked whether or not employees are being paid from the Club account. He further questioned whether MNA Daniyal Aziz could be appointed administrator of the Gun and Country Club. No parliamentarian can withdraw salaries and enjoy perks and privileges from two places at one time. There are also reports about victimisation of employees by the administrator. If Aziz is drawing salary from the Club, the committee should be informed in this regard, the chairman asked. The committee directed for presenting accounts details of the Gun and Country Club since 2002. The committee observed if Aziz is holding an honorary position, he cannot interfere into the Club affairs.
