Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI) has strongly condemned the closure of industrial units by Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) in Hyderabad and demanded to allow industrial units to resume their production.
Senior vice president HCCI, Turab Ali Khoja and other members, in a statement issued here on Sunday, also appealed the chief minister Sindh to take immediate measures to resolve the conflict between Sindh Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and industrialists of Hyderabad.
It was not feasible for any industrial unit to install effluent treatment plant at its own, Turab Khoja said adding that such plant should be established by the provincial government for protection of industrial units which were playing important role in economic development of the province and provision of employment to local population.
He said that not the industrial units but disposal of tons of municipal waste and drainage water into irrigation canals was a major cause of water pollution and concrete measures by Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) were required to mitigate environmental hazards.
He appealed high-ups to allow the closed factories to resume their production. The closure of industries would result in unemployment besides affecting exports and tax recovery.
