Kazim Raza laid to rest

Published January 26, 2017 Updated January 26, 2017 12:00am

Muhammad Kazim Raza, a Shia cleric who was shot dead by unknown persons in Gulistan-e-Jauhar on Tuesday night, was laid to rest in Wadi-e-Hussain graveyard on Wednesday. Earlier, his funeral prayer was offered under the Imamat of Allama Mirza Yousaf Hussain at Numaish Churangi on Wednesday afternoon. Religious scholars, civil society members, politicians, relatives and friends attended last rituals of the deceased.
Kazim, 39, was killed in what appeared to be a sectarian gun attack at Mir Munawar Chowrangi near Gulistan-e-Jauhar. The deceased was originally hailing from district Kharmang's Pari village of Gilgit-Baltistan. Similar assault took place in Qasba Colony when unidentified assailants gunned down a man Zulfiqar Ali from same sect, a couple of days back.
The rising target killings prompted citizens and human right activists to take to roads again as hundreds of protesters backed by MWM gathered at Numaish Roundabout to denounce the fresh terrorist incidents. The speakers urged the government for an immediate arrest of culprits involved behind the fresh killings.
Meanwhile, at an emergency press conference in Wahdat house here, the MWM central deputy secretary general Alma Syed Ahmad Iqbal Rizvi expressed serious concerns over the fresh spate of 'sectarian killings' in the metropolis. "We have lost two precious lives within last 24 hours, what was their sin? Why were they killed?" He questioned. The back to back attacks raised question mark over the performance of government and law enforcement agencies, he said.
On one hand innocent people are being brutally killed while on the other hand the terrorists and their facilitators are moving freely without fear of apprehension. He underscored the need of proper implementation on the National Action Plan (NAP) to restore durable peace in the country. On November 27 2016, DSP Traffic Police Faiz Ali Shigari who also belonged to GB was killed by unidentified gunmen near Alladin Park, Rashid Minhas Road Gulshan-e-Iqbal area.
