Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting which reviewed the progress of matters of procurement of laptops for talented girl and boy students of the province.
Giving approval to purchase 1, 50,000 laptops immediately during current financial year, the Punjab Chief Minister said that process of procurement of laptops should be completed at the earliest and laptops of latest model should be purchased for the students.
He said that programme of distribution of laptops on merit is an important step towards empowering the youth.
He said the Punjab government has already distributed thousands of laptops at a cost of billions of rupees among talented students while 1,50,000 more laptops worth billions of rupees will be distributed on merit during current financial year, he added. Shahbaz Sharif directed that no delay should be tolerated in the matters of purchase of laptops and all the matters should be completed immediately in a transparent manner. Youths are being harmonised with latest demands of present age with the distribution of laptops and becoming aware of new inventions and changing situation throughout the world through laptops, he added. Punjab Chief Minister said that provision of resources for empowering the youth is a useful investment and Punjab government will provide all out resources for the programmes of awareness of youth about modern knowledge.
He said benefiting from information technology is need of the hour that is why effective steps have been taken for the promotion of information technology in the province.
Empowering youth through equipping them with modern knowledge is our mission, he added. He said that the programme of distribution of laptops among youth on merit is yielding positive results. He said that education is the only way through which trends of extremism can be eliminated from the society. The Punjab government has taken revolutionary steps for the promotion of quality education and modern knowledge, he added.
He said IT labs have been set up a cost of billions of rupees in the schools of the province. He said that more than 1,50,000 talented girls and boys of resource-less families are studying in prestigious educational institutions through Punjab Educational Endowment Fund. Provincial Minister for Higher Education Begum Zakia Shahnawaz, Chief Secretary, Chairman Planning and Development, Secretary Higher Education and officials concerned were present on the occasion.
