Condemn-ing the government's decision of sending 108 teachers of Pak-Turk International Schools and Colleges Network back to their homeland, the students of these schools Friday staged a protest demonstration and demanded the government to take this decision back.
The students of Pak-Turk Schools gathered in front of National Press Club (NPC) and staged a protest demonstration against the government's decision of sending their teachers back to their homeland, ahead of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's bilateral visit to Pakistan.
The protesting students were carrying placards and banners in support of their demands. A heavy contingent of police was deployed on this occasion in order to avert any unpleasant incident. A few days ago, the federal government asked the 108 Turkish teachers of Pak-Turk International Schools and Colleges to leave the country along with their families.
The Ministry of Interior had not renewed visas of 108 Turkish teachers along with their 300 family members, following the recommendations of the Foreign Office and had asked them to leave the country. The protesting students said that it would be great injustice with the 10,000 students of Pak-Turk schools if the government forces their teachers to leave Pakistan. The decision of the government would have serious impacts on education as well as on the future of these students, they added.
The future of 28 educational institutes, set up by the Pak-Turk International Schools and Colleges Network, hangs in the balance after the Turkish Ambassador requested the Government of Pakistan to close down all the institutions, backed by the Fethullah Gulen's Hizmet's movement, following a failed coup in Turkey during July this year.
The network of 28 schools and colleges in Islamabad, Lahore, Quetta, Karachi, Hyderabad, Khairpur and Jamshoro has staff strength of 1,500 who teach around 10,000 students from pre-school to A-level.
