Pebble Breakers overpowered Sherwood by 8-4 in the Seasons Canola Polo Cup 2016 main final played here at the Lahore Polo Club (LPC) ground on Sunday. Man-of-the-match Ahmed Ali Tiwana played superbly and amused the spectators with his tremendous polo. He hammered a fabulous hat-trick and was ably assisted by Mustafa Atta Khan Khosa, who also struck thrice, and Mustafa Monno, who scored a brilliant brace.
From the losing side, Hissam Ali Hyder hammered three goals and Mustafa Aziz hit one. Hissam showed some glimpses of his powerful game and hit some long lofted shots in the last chukker but his efforts couldn't bear fruit for Sherwood, who failed to clinch the title.
Talking to media after the final, Ahmed Tiwana said: "I am very glad with my performance in the final which helped my team win the final. We played like a team and our unity and hard work resulted in title triumph.
Speaking about this polo season, he said: "This season seems very tough as right from the start, we have been witnessing very challenging polo. Such a tough matches at the beginning shows that the high-goal tournaments will be very tough and challenging and we have to work really hard and improve our horses, if we want to win the high-goal tournaments."
Treet Corporation CEO Syed Shahid Ali Shah was chief guest at the final while LPC president Irfan Ali Hyder, Seasons Canola brand ambassador Syed M Raza Termizi, assistant brand manager Ibtessam Haider, Season Canola organiser Rehan Qureshi, LPC executive committee members Omer Niazi, Agha Najeeb, Saqib Khan Khakwani, secretary Colonel (R) Shoaib Aftab and a larger number of polo enthusiast were also present at the final. In the end, the chief guest distributed prizes among the winners.
In the subsidiary final, Guard Group/Oye Hoye, having half goal handicap advantage, defeated Rijas by 8.5-7 to claim the third position. Ahmed Ali Tiwana was awarded man of the match award.
Saqib Khan was star of the day for Guard Group as he played outstanding polo and slammed sterling seven goals while the remaining one came from Emran Akhtar. From Rijas, Omar Malhi malloted fantastic five while Asif Zahoor and Agha Murtaza hit one goal apiece but all their efforts went in vain due to Saqib's heroics.
