SC directs NAB to investigate Nandipur Power Project

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Thursday directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to hold investigation against alleged corruption in the Nandipur Power Project.
The three-member bench headed by Chief Justice directed NAB to probe the matter in the light of report of Justice (Retd) Rehmat Hussain Jafri to investigate the reasons behind the increase in the cost of the project.
The Chief Justice remarked he wanted to see the fraud done in the Nandipur project, which made reasons behind the loss of Rs. 133 billion to the national exchequer.
Secretary for Energy informed the bench that the power project was planned in 2005 to produce 525 megawatt of electricity and the original cost of the project was to be Rs22 billion, which eventually increased to Rs58 billion due to the delays, he added.
The bench subsequently directed NAB to probe the matter in depth in light of the report.
