Deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has issued on Thursday a legal notice to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman Javed Iqbal, demanding a written apology from him for leveling money laundering allegations against him.

In the legal notice, Sharif has demanded that the NAB chairman publishes an apology in two English daily newspapers and two Urdu daily newspapers with nation-wide circulation, local media reported. The legal notice further reads that the chairman should also pay Rs1 billion as a compensation within two weeks for leveling money laundering allegations against Sharif. However, if the chairman fails to do so then legal action would be initiated against him.

NAB chairman fails to appear before NA panel over allegations against Nawaz

The NAB chairman ordered an investigation after he took notice of a report that was published by the World Bank two years ago. The report carried information that Sharif, along with some others, allegedly laundered $4.9 billion to India. The NAB chairman had then ordered a probe into the matter.

However, after NAB initiated the investigation, the World Bank claimed that the report does not include any mention of money laundering nor does it name any individuals. Following the announcement of NAB’s probe, Sharif had demanded that NAB chairman should provide proof against him or resign.

The NAB chairman had been summoned to appear before the National Assembly Standing Committee on Law and Justice regarding the money laundering issue of Sharif. He had, however, failed to appear, saying that he already had prior commitments for the day.
