ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Railways (PR) has retrieved 3721,287 acres encroached railway land so far with the help of district and railways police.

“Pakistan administration carries out regular anti-encroachment operations to retrieve its encroached lands. Pakistan Railway’s efforts for removal of encroachments gained momentum after Supreme Court orders in a suo-moto case, which directed PR and  provinces to get its land vacated from the un-authorized occupation of private as well as government agencies with the assistance of district administration,” said an official of Pakistan Railways while talking to APP here on Thursday.

He said “as a result of successful ongoing anti encroachment operations since 2012 carried out in six phases, the PR managed to retrieve 3721,287 acres land from encroachers with the assistance of PR police, district administration.”

He said that retrieved Railway land falling within the proximity of 100 feet from the center of track was generally kept clear for safe train operation, whereas the remaining retrieved lands have either been leased out or proposed for leasing through open auction in a transparent manner through advertisement in the press.

To a question he said during the regime of present government 1184,121 acres of railway land retrieved with effect from June 24 2013 and  till date.

A project for computerization of Railways land record had already been initiated through Punjab Urban unit, in order to harmonize the Railway land record with the record of all provincial revenue departments he added.

The official said “this project will be helpful in safeguarding the railway land ensure transparency in land management and control encroachments.
