GILGIT: Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan, Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman here Wednesday formed a high level committee led by Provincial Local Government Minister, Farman Ali for smooth holding of local bodies’ election in the province.
The others members of the committee are provincial minister for law Aurangzaib advocate, secretaries Local Government and Law besides members of Home Department. This decision has been taken by the CM during a high level meeting regarding LG election here today.
Election Commission has been made focal person. The committee will prepare draft of proposals in the light of local government act within two months after consultation with all stakeholders.
The Chief Minister said LG election plays key role in resolution of peoples’ problems at their doorsteps besides strengthening democracy.
The CM accepted the demands of election commission regarding provision of funds for smooth holding of the local government election and directed the Finance Secretary to provide the necessary amount to the commission.
He said necessary legislation would also be made if necessary for LG election, adding decision of holding election on party basis or otherwise would be taken after recommendations of the committee and with consultation of all political parties for which All Parties Conference (APC) would be convened.
