ATC sends Rao Anwar to 30-day physical remand

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi hearing the Naqeebullah murder case has granted Sindh police a 30-day physical remand of Rao Anwar.

Earlier, the ATC had demanded the investigation officer to produce former Malir Senior Superintendent (SSP) Rao Awar in the court today.

According to local media reports, investigation officer Abid Qaimkhani requested if Anwar could be produced before the court in the next hearing, to which the court ordered to present him today.

Earlier in the morning while appearing before the court, Qaimkhani had requested the court to grant him time to bring Anwar to the court to which he was given 30 minutes and the hearing was adjourned.

Rao Anwar a no-show in court yet again despite CJP’s directives

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court had ordered the arrest of Anwar after he made a surprise appearance in the top court. Anwar was arrested by the authorities outside the court and was shifted from Islamabad to Karachi last night.

Anwar had been absconding in the extra judicial murder of Naqeebullah for more than a month. Naqeebullah was a 27-year-old native of Waziristan, who was killed along with three other suspected terrorists on January 13 in an alleged encounter with a police team headed by Anwar. However, Naqeebullah’s family has claimed that the deceased was innocent and was killed in a ‘fake’ encounter.
