Ukraine war: Russian CG accuses West of politicising international law
KARACHI: Russian Consul General in Karachi Andrey Victorovich Fedorov has accused Western countries of politicising international law and engaging in what he described as “legal aggression” against Russia, warning that such practices could threaten the interests of any country.
Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club, Fedorov criticised Western countries over their response to the Ukraine crisis, alleging that Ukrainian authorities had imposed restrictions on the Russian language and the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church. He also accused the West of ignoring what he described as the promotion of Nazi ideology and practices in Ukraine.
The Russian diplomat criticised the International Criminal Court, the UN Human Rights Council, UNESCO and the Council of Europe for what he described as their failure to address these issues, alleging that Western countries prioritised their geopolitical interests over human rights and international justice.
Fedorov warned that Russia was not the only country vulnerable to what he termed “legal aggression” by Western powers. He said any state could potentially face the seizure of its gold and foreign currency reserves held in Western financial institutions. He stressed that protecting international justice mechanisms and safeguarding international law from what he called dishonest politicisation were in the interests of all states concerned about protecting their national interests.
