Pakistan is in talks with global mining technology firm Weir, a global engineering solutions provider headquartered in Scotland, over potential collaboration in its minerals sector, with the company expressing interest in building long-term ties with the government, the petroleum ministry said on Wednesday.

The development came during a meeting between Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik and JD Singleton, Director, Comminution EMEA and Pakistan Executive Sponsor at Weir, to discuss opportunities for collaboration in Pakistan’s minerals sector.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed Pakistan’s emerging mineral sector opportunities, the role of advanced mining technologies, and potential areas of strategic collaboration.

Ali Pervaiz welcomed Weir’s participation in Pakistan’s mineral sector and assured the company of the government’s full support in facilitating its engagement and long-term investment in the country.

The minister appreciated Weir’s interest in strengthening its presence in Pakistan and contributing its global expertise to the development of the country’s mineral resources.

Weir, a global mining technology leader with over 11,000 employees operating across more than 50 countries, expressed its commitment to building long-term relationships with Pakistan and key industry stakeholders.

As per the statement, the company will participate in the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2026 (PMIF’26) as a platinum sponsor.

Its senior leadership delegation, including Andrew Neilson, Group Chief Executive Officer of Weir, is expected to attend the Forum in Islamabad on November 12–13, 2026.

The minister welcomed Weir’s engagement with Pakistan and expressed confidence that collaboration with international technology leaders would contribute to efficient, sustainable and modern mineral development, while supporting the country’s efforts to attract investment in the sector.
