LAHORE: A delegation from the European Investment Bank (EIB) visited the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Lahore head office on Saturday to explore strategic partnerships in urban infrastructure, wastewater management, and sustainable development.

WASA Lahore Managing Director Ghufran Ahmed welcomed the delegation, which included Peter Szappanos, Senior Engineer in the Water Division, and Marco Arena, Loan Officer in the Asia and Pacific Division.

WASA Lahore Deputy Managing Director Engineering Zeeshan Bilal, Director Planning and Development Samina Asif, and other senior municipal officials were also present at the meeting.

According to WASA Lahore, the meeting featured detailed discussions on prospective technical assistance and funding for major municipal infrastructure projects, including wastewater treatment plants, modernised drainage systems, and trunk sewer networks. Both sides also evaluated joint initiatives aimed at upgrading urban amenities and promoting eco-friendly, climate-resilient development across Lahore. During the briefing, the EIB delegation received a comprehensive overview of WASA Lahore’s ongoing and upcoming capital works.

Ahmed emphasised that the timely completion and effective, transparent implementation of these projects remain the agency’s top operational priorities. “WASA is fully committed to delivering reliable water supply and efficient drainage services to citizens through modern technology and sustainable planning,” he added.

The EIB representatives commended WASA Lahore for its proactive approach toward improving urban living standards and pursuing sustainable development benchmarks. Concluding the visit, both organisations agreed to deepen mutual cooperation and establish technical assistance frameworks to accelerate future infrastructure upgrades.
