KARACHI: A large number of people attended the rally of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) here Sunday to express solidarity with the Palestinians.
Addressing the rally, JI Amir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman praised the Hamas, saying “The freedom fighters can defeat the biggest technology on the basis of faith, passion and commitment.” He said that Israel, after being defeated on the technological front, had turned its force against defenceless Palestinians. He said Muslim rulers, their armies and those claiming to be champions of humanity had a responsibility to rein in Israel. He criticised the silence of Muslim countries on the issue of Palestine.
“For the last three years Israel has been carrying out genocide of Palestinians,” he said, adding that the violence was taking place in both Gaza and the West Bank. He said children were being targeted and killed with sniper guns. He said Israel enjoyed the full backing of the United States, adding that the silence of Muslim countries was also strengthening Israel.
He said Israel had emerged from the Zionist movement and recalled that the founder of Pakistan had maintained from the outset that the country could not recognise Israel under any circumstances. “Twenty-five crore people of Pakistan do not believe in two states theory; they believe in only one state and that is the state of Palestine.”
He called on the Muslim Ummah to intensify its struggle for the liberation of Masjid al-Aqsa and said sectarian Shia-Sunni conflict and geographical divisions must end.
The JI chief said the party, in collaboration with Alkhidmat, had sent more than Rs10 billion in aid to the Palestinians, provided hospital facilities and launched scholarships for Palestinian students. He also announced that the Bano Qabil programme would soon be extended to Palestine.
He said JI’s campaign against petroleum levy and inflation was continuing. “We will observe the week till October 7 as solidarity with Gaza and Hamas, and after October 7 we will announce our future line of action against petroleum levy extortion tax and inflation.”
