KARACHI: The Pakistan Chemicals & Dyes Merchants Association (PCDMA) has urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend the deadline for filing Income Tax Returns for the tax period ending September 30, 2026, by one month, citing persistent malfunctioning and instability of the IRIS portal.
In a letter addressed to FBR Chairman Rashid Mehmood Langrial, PCDMA Chairman Salim Valimuhammad said tax practitioners and taxpayers were facing serious difficulties in transmitting their Income Tax Returns within the stipulated deadline due to the continued technical problems with the IRIS portal.
He said the issue had repeatedly been brought to the attention of the PRAL team through individual complaints as well as collective representations. However, the portal had reportedly remained dysfunctional and unstable for more than a week, making it difficult for tax practitioners to complete their statutory obligations on time.
“Despite repeated requests for remedial measures, the issues remain unresolved, resulting in considerable hardship for the tax fraternity,” Valimuhammad said.
The PCDMA chairman therefore requested the FBR chairman to extend the due date for filing Income Tax Returns for the tax period September 30, 2026, up to October 30, 2026, in the interest of justice and to facilitate taxpayers and tax practitioners in fulfilling their statutory obligations without undue hardship.
Valimuhammad appreciated the FBR’s attention to the matter and expressed hope that the requested extension would be granted to provide relief to the tax fraternity.
