KARACHI: The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) elections for the term 2026–2028 held on Saturday, which concluded with a clean sweep by the Businessmen Group (BMG), led by Chairman Zubair Motiwala.
According to unofficial results all 30 BMG candidates defeated the rival Businessmen Alliance (BMA) for the Managing Committee seats. The BMG candidates elected for the corporate class are included: Shahid Ismail, Zafar Saeed Baghpati, Mubeen Waqar, Aslam Pakhali, Jahangir Mughal, Faisal Jahangir, Muzamil Rauf Chaplin, Aslam Parvez, Sheikh Waseem Ahmed, Ahsan Saleem, Syed Atiqur Rehman, Khalid Riaz, Zohaib Fakhruddin Dabba. Wala, Adnan Ahmed Paracha and Sadiq Abdul Razzaq.
For the associate class, the elected members are: Talat Mehmood, Muhammad Ibrahim Kasumbi, Muhammad Farooq Afzal, Haji Asif Chamdia, Chaudhry Amir Ali Khan, Atif Jameel-ur-Rehman, Abdul Khaliq Insaf, Aamir Mansha, Muhammad Faheem, Shabbir Ismail, Syed Umeeruddin Hussain, Alamgir Khokhar, Muhammad Usman, Saad Ali Younis and Johar Iqbal.
The polling time was scheduled from 9 am to 5:30 pm, however it was extended to 6 pm. There were 56 candidates contesting in the elections, competing for 15 corporate and 15 associate seats.
For the first time, separate elections for corporate and associate classes were held in the KCCI, which is credited to the leaders of the opposition Businessmen Alliance, who had successfully appealed to the DGT. A total of 3,582 voters cast their votes in the polls. In the corporate class, only 1,799 voters (20.46 percent) out of 8,843 cast their votes, while in the association class, 1,783 voters (22.66 percent) out of 8,042 exercised their right to vote.
