ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Lebanon on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to allow convicted nationals to serve the remainder of their sentences in their home countries, providing a legal framework for the transfer of sentenced persons between the two countries.

The agreement was signed by Lebanese Interior Minister Ahmad Al-Hajjar and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in the presence of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Earlier, talking to Al-Hajjar, who is visiting Pakistan, the prime minister welcomed the Lebanese minister and reaffirmed the longstanding ties between the two countries. He also conveyed his warm wishes to Lebanon’s leadership.

The two sides reviewed bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction over growing cooperation in interior and security affairs, according to a statement issued after the meeting.

Sharif condemned Israel’s aggression against Lebanon and expressed sympathy over the loss of life and property caused by the attacks.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with the Lebanese leadership and people and reiterated Islamabad’s support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Al-Hajjar thanked the prime minister for the warm reception and reaffirmed Lebanon’s desire to further strengthen bilateral cooperation with Pakistan.
