ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Tuesday inaugurated the monsoon tree plantation campaign by planting an olive sapling at the Parliament House lawn.

Members of Parliament, senior officials of the National Assembly Secretariat and media representatives attended the plantation ceremony. A special prayer was also offered for the progress, prosperity and security of the country.

Speaking on the occasion, the Speaker underscored the importance of tree plantation for environmental protection and a secure future for coming generations. He stressed the need to promote plantation activities to make Pakistan greener, healthier and more prosperous.

Ayaz Sadiq said trees play a vital role in mitigating the adverse effects of climate change and urged parliamentarians and the public to actively participate in tree plantation campaigns.

Highlighting the economic potential of olive cultivation, he said olive oil was among the best edible oils and Pakistan’s climate was highly suitable for growing olives. Promoting olive cultivation, he added, could help the country achieve greater self-sufficiency in the edible oil sector.
