Sindh Rescue 1122: Chinese firm offers automated fire-fighting technology
KARACHI: A Chinese company has offered Sindh modern fire-fighting and emergency rescue technology, including automated fire tenders designed to extinguish fires and assist evacuations with minimal human intervention.
A Chinese delegation visited the headquarters of Sindh Emergency Rescue Service 1122 on Thursday, where it was briefed on the province’s emergency response system and discussed potential investment and technology cooperation with the Sindh government.
Sindh Chief Minister’s Adviser on Rehabilitation Giyan Chand Essarani chaired a meeting with the delegation, attended by Rescue 1122 Director General Brigadier Wajid Saghatullah Mehr (retd), Director Operations Abid Sheikh and other senior officials.
The delegation inspected the service’s command and control room and reviewed its emergency response operations.
Mehr said Rescue 1122 received between 26,000 and 30,000 emergency calls daily, responding on average to around 900 medical emergencies and 30 to 35 fire and water-rescue incidents. He said ambulances generally reached emergency sites within eight to 10 minutes, while motorcycle response teams could arrive within four to five minutes. Over the past four years, Rescue 1122 had saved 5,776 lives and recovered the bodies of 1,461 deceased people, Mehr said.
The service currently provides medical emergency response, fire-fighting, water rescue, urban search and rescue, highway rescue and gender-desk services.
The Chinese delegation praised the performance of Rescue 1122 and offered to supply modern fire-fighting equipment and automated fire tenders for Sindh.
According to the delegation, the technology could operate effectively even on narrow roads, automatically detect and extinguish fires and simultaneously support the evacuation of people from affected areas.
The company also offered a three-year maintenance service, quarterly technical inspections and a lifetime warranty for the proposed equipment.
Chinese representatives invited Essarani and the Rescue 1122 director general to visit China to observe advanced fire-fighting and emergency rescue systems.
Essarani said the Sindh government was committed to equipping Rescue 1122 with modern technology to improve emergency response and save lives.
“Transforming the friendship between Pakistan and China into practical economic and technological cooperation is the need of the hour,” he said.
He added that Sindh offered significant investment opportunities and that the provincial government would facilitate investors seeking to establish projects in the province.
