LAHORE: Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique has said that the Punjab Rural Sustainable Water Supply and Sanitation Project (PRSWSSP) has been launched in the villages of 16 tehsils of Punjab. With the completion of this project, the 6 million rural populations will get clean water and sanitation facilities.

He also said the pilot project of the PRSWSSP has been completed successfully, adding that priority is being given to villages in more backward areas in this project. He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting held on Wednesday to review the progress on the Model Village Programme and Punjab Rural Sustainable Water Supply and Sanitation Project.

Punjab Local Government Secretary Zaid Bin Maqsood, Special Secretary Shahid Zaman Lak and Additional Secretary Mehreen Fahim Abbasi also attended the meeting, while Punjab Rural Municipal Services Company (PRMSC) CEO Khurram Pervez briefed the meeting.

On this occasion, the Minister expressed his satisfaction over the 46 percent physical progress in the villages of Lahore division, directing the PRMSC to take necessary care of the timeline. He said 485 villages of 10 divisions of the Punjab are being made model under the vision of ‘Maryam Nawaz’s Sohna (beautiful) Punjab’.

“More funds will be provided for this programme in the budget in the new fiscal year,” he promised. He said the availability of quality basic facilities is the right of the rural, adding that availability of quality basic facilities is the right of the rural population, which is being given to them in the form of the Model Village Programme. “The scope of the Model Village Programme will be gradually expanded,” he added.
