KARACHI: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation has intensified its crackdown on illegal encroachments to protect public property and critical water infrastructure in the city, reclaiming additional government land at the Qasba Reservoir in North Nazimabad.

The anti-encroachment operation entered its fifth consecutive day at the Qasba Reservoir in Block T, North Nazimabad, under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Central Taha Saleem, with teams from KWSC, the district administration, police and other government agencies participating in the joint operation.

According to a KWSC Spokesman, the latest phase of the drive resulted in the demolition of several illegal structures erected on government land, enabling authorities to recover more public property surrounding the reservoir.

The operation is aimed at preventing illegal occupation of land reserved for essential water infrastructure and ensuring the protection of strategic public assets linked to Karachi’s water supply system.

KWSC acknowledged the support of the district administration, law enforcement agencies and other relevant institutions. The coordinated action had ensured the operation was carried out effectively and without interruption.

Pursuing its zero-tolerance policy against land encroachments, KWSC would tolerate with illegal occupation of public land. It warned that enforcement operations would continue under the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation Act, 2023, the Sindh Public Property (Removal of Encroachment) Act, 2010, and other applicable laws.

The anti-encroachment campaign will expand next week to KWSC-owned land in Gharo, Thatta district, as well as other properties of the utility.

“The operation will continue until all illegally occupied public land is reclaimed and restored for its intended public purpose,” the spokesperson said.

Officials from KWSC’s land, engineering and security departments, along with representatives of the district administration and police, participated in the operation, the Spokesman said.
