KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Tuesday announced that the city’s TP-1 sewage treatment plant is expected to become operational by the mid- July 2026, marking a significant step towards improving wastewater management and supplying treated water for industrial use.
During a visit to the TP-1 facility, the Mayor reviewed progress on the project and said the establishment of a modern sewage treatment facility had long been a shared aspiration for Karachi.
He said the plant would initially treat 35 million gallons of wastewater per day (MGD) and was expected to be fully operational by mid of July 2026. Civil construction work on the project has been completed, and the testing and commissioning phase has now commenced ahead of its formal inauguration.
