KARACHI: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Chief, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said on Thursday that the country’s “obsolete, oppressive and exploitative” system could only be replaced by an Islamic order, stressing that achieving this objective required sustained, organised and sincere struggle.
Addressing a one-day training session at Jamia Masjid Quba in Federal B Area’s Block 13, he said the JI was not merely a political party but a movement for the establishment of Islam in society.
“The alternative to a system is another system. The prevailing outdated, unjust and exploitative order can only be replaced by an Islamic system,” he said, adding that the party did not believe in bringing about change through conspiracies, clandestine means or at gunpoint.
He said the JI sought to bring about transformation through democratic struggle by enlightening people, developing their intellectual outlook and mobilising public opinion.
Naeemur Rehman said the party was organising young people across the country and working simultaneously on three fronts: organisation-building, training and social reform. He said social reform was not limited to moral development but also included resistance against injustice, oppression and the denial of citizens’ rights.
The JI chief said that when the party spoke about public rights, some self-styled intellectuals raised objections. He maintained that winning votes alone was insufficient and that expanding the number of committed workers remained an urgent necessity.
“We need workers who not only cast their votes but also safeguard them, remain among the people and play an active role in advancing the mission of establishing Islam,” he said.
He made it clear that Islam was not confined to prayer, fasting, zakat and pilgrimage, but encompassed politics, economics, justice and all aspects of collective life. Expressing concern over rising inflation, unemployment and worsening public hardships, he said Islam encouraged people to strive for their legitimate rights and raise their voices against incompetent and corrupt rulers.
The event was attended by party workers, office-bearers and people from different walks of life.
