KARACHI: A vessel, P Aliki, carrying 73,000 metric tons of crude oil, is set to arrive at Karachi Port Trust (KPT) on Thursday. According to the KPT’s shipping intelligence report, the shipment, handled by Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, represents one of the largest single-commodity deliveries expected at the port this week.
The crude oil arrival comes as KPT recorded a total cargo throughput of 198,852 metric tons over the last 24 hours on June 10 with imports accounting for the bulk at 142,884 metric tons against 55,968 metric tons of exports.
Liquid cargo dominated the import side with 38,300 metric tons, while containerized cargo led overall at 101,992 metric tons combined. On the export front, clinkers emerged as the top commodity at 36,024 metric tons, followed by 18,365 metric tons of containerized exports.
Eight vessels berthed during the period, including container ships OOCL Nagoya, HMM Lime, Al Seef, Lepton, and Al Udeid, alongside tankers MT Shalamar and DM Jade. Eight ships also sailed, among them APL Southampton, X-Press Phoenix, and MT Lahore.
The port expects a heavy traffic surge in the next 24 hours, with eleven vessels scheduled to arrive, of them, nine carrying containers and two bearing chemical cargo totaling 10,200 metric tons. Rice export activity is also set to pick up, with vessels Puma 7 and NDL Ten scheduled to load 7,000 metric tons combined on June 12.
