In a statement on the International Day of UN Peacekeepers, observed annually worldwide, PM Sharif described Pakistan’s participation as a source of immense national pride, noting that the country currently ranks as the fifth-largest contributor to UN peacekeeping missions.
He praised the sacrifices of peacekeepers, including over 4,400 personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty, of whom more than 181 were Pakistani.
“Pakistan takes immense pride in its martyrs and in all those who continue to serve with exceptional professionalism, commitment and resolve in promoting peace, stability, and protecting vulnerable communities across the world,” he added.

The prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting global peace efforts through active participation in UN missions. “Our continued contribution reflects Pakistan’s enduring commitment to international peace and security, as well as to the principles of multilateralism.”
PM Sharif said Friday’s observance, themed Invest in Peace, honours the invaluable services and sacrifices of military, police and civilian peacekeepers serving in conflict-affected regions. He noted the day also marks the establishment of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO), the first UN peacekeeping mission, which began operations in Palestine in 1948.
The prime minister said that over two million personnel have served in more than seventy UN peace missions globally, with Pakistan remaining one of the longest-serving and leading contributors.
“Through their dedicated service, troop-contributing countries continue to play a vital role in the maintenance of international peace and security, reflecting our collective commitment to peace as a shared global priority,” he added.
