Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with Iran during a telephone conversation with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian on the occasion of Eidul Adha, expressing hope that a peace agreement would soon be reached in line with the dignity and self-respect of the Iranian nation.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the nearly 30-minute warm and cordial conversation saw the two leaders exchange Eid greetings and convey best wishes to each other, the people of their respective countries, and the wider Muslim Ummah.

President Pezeshkian thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for Pakistan’s significant role in efforts aimed at restoring peace in the region.

He also appreciated the participation of other regional countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkiye, in the peace efforts.

Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed complete solidarity with the Iranian leadership and people over the loss of precious lives during the ongoing crisis. He thanked the Iranian president for his goodwill sentiments towards Pakistan and his team, saying that Field Marshal Asim Munir had made tireless efforts for regional peace.

The prime minister voiced optimism that a peace accord would soon be finalised, adding that peace in the region would enable Iran to realise its true economic potential, benefiting the entire region.

He said Pakistan, as a brotherly neighbouring country, would always stand by Iran and that a bright and prosperous future awaited both countries once peace was restored in the region.

The two leaders also agreed to remain in close contact and continue consultations on regional developments.
