KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi has successfully secured the recovery of 80 acres of precious government land worth approximately Rs 6 billion, which had been illegally allotted to private real estate giant M/s Bahria Town at the Gulistan-e-Sarmast Housing Scheme, Deh Ganjo Takkar, Hyderabad.

According to the NAB, the recovered land, situated at one of the most prime locations in Hyderabad, had been handed over to Bahria Town at a shockingly undervalued price of just Rs 383 million, a fraction of its actual market worth.

Adding to the irregularity, the company also defaulted on even this meager payment, failing to fulfill its financial obligations under the allotment agreement.

The management of Bahria Town not only secured the allotment through illegal means but also took possession of the land under terms that were never honoured, the NAB said.

Most critically, Bahria Town failed to meet the core condition for which the land had originally been allotted, the establishment of a university thereby completely defeating the public interest purpose behind the agreement.

Upon unearthing the irregularities, NAB Karachi took up the matter directly with the Hyderabad Development Authority (HDA). Following sustained efforts and active intervention by the Bureau, the HDA formally cancelled both the allotment and the possession of the land.

Furthermore, the partial amount already paid by M/s Bahria Town has been forfeited by the authorities as a consequence of the company’s failure to comply with the agreed terms and conditions.
