ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement in the evolving Middle East situation gained further momentum as Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir concluded a three-day official visit to Iran, reinforcing Islamabad’s role in sustaining dialogue between regional and global actors.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Asim Munir, accompanied by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and a high-level delegation, met with Iran’s top civilian and military leadership during the visit.

The Army Chief called on Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian and held separate meetings with Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Commander of Khatam-ul-Anbiya Headquarters Major General Ali Abdollahi.

Discussions focused on the evolving regional security environment, ongoing diplomatic engagements, and coordinated efforts to ensure long-term peace and stability. The Pakistani delegation emphasised the need for dialogue, de-escalation, and sustained diplomatic engagement to resolve outstanding issues.

During the meetings, Field Marshal Asim Munir conveyed goodwill messages from Pakistan’s leadership and reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to strengthening historic and brotherly ties with Iran. He also expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended by the Iranian leadership. The visit comes days after high-level direct talks between the United States and Iran were hosted in Islamabad — the first such engagement in decades — which, although ending without a final agreement, kept diplomatic channels open. Since then, multiple exchanges between Washington and Tehran have reportedly continued through Pakistan, indicating a shift from one-off mediation to sustained diplomatic facilitation. The current outreach, including Field Marshal Asim Munir’s visit to Tehran, reflects a developing phase of shuttle diplomacy where Pakistan is playing an active role in maintaining continuity in negotiations amid heightened regional tensions.
