LAHORE: Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol chaired a high-level meeting with officials from the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) to address pressing environmental concerns and the proposed relocation of industries.
Senior Vice President Tanveer Ahmad Sheikh, Executive Committee Members Shaban Akhtar and Ehtesham Ul Haq, along with EPA Deputy Director Ali Ejaz and Additional Director Muhammad Hasnain, were also in attendance.
Saigol stressed the urgent need for a transparent and well-structured industrial relocation policy, urging authorities to clearly communicate designated relocation sites, lease terms, available facilities, and incentives to businesses. He cautioned that relocation would temporarily disrupt operations and affect tax revenues, warning that issues such as labour availability, transport, and logistics must be addressed well in advance. He further recommended developing new industrial zones on all four sides of Lahore, ensuring full Ease of Doing Business facilities to support seamless transitions.
The LCCI President called on the EPA to formulate a comprehensive, sector-wise relocation plan tailored to the needs of different industries. In response, EPA officials outlined a five-step framework comprising mapping, pollution assessment, site identification, prioritisation, and an implementation plan, adding that stakeholder consultations are actively underway to ensure a balanced and practical outcome.
