ISLAMABAD: In a major diplomatic development, Iran has granted permission for 20 additional Pakistani-flagged vessels to transit through the strategic Strait of Hormuz, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced on Saturday.

“I am pleased to share a great news that the government of Iran has agreed to allow 20 more ships under the Pakistani flag to pass through the Strait of Hormuz; two ships will cross the Strait daily,” he posted a message on his X handle.

This is a welcome and constructive gesture by Iran and deserves appreciation. It is a harbinger of peace and will help usher stability in the region, Dar said.

The new arrangement establishes a consistent maritime flow, allowing two ships to cross the waterway daily. This move is being viewed as a constructive and peace-oriented gesture by Tehran, aimed at fostering regional stability and strengthening bilateral cooperation.

By facilitating the passage of these vessels, both nations are signalling a commitment to dialogue and confidence-building measures towards de-escalation in the Middle East.
