World No. 2 Jannik Sinner cruised into the round of 16 in the Miami Open with a 6-1, 6-4 historic sweep of No. 30 Frenchman Corentin Moutet on Monday in Miami Gardens, Fla.

With his 25th and 26th straight sets won at Masters 1000 events, Sinner has surpassed Novak Djokovic’s previous record of 24 straight sets won in a row from 2016. He’s won the last two Masters 1000 events, Indian Wells last week and Paris last fall, without dropping a single set.

“I am very happy,” Sinner said following his victory.

“This sport is unpredictable, so we try to keep attention as much as we can and we’ll see what is coming in the next round.”

The Italian came out hot, winning 19 of the first 26 points of the game and jumping out to a quick 4-1 lead, before ultimately winning the first set 6-1 in a quick 22 minutes.

Sinner rang in seven aces overall, and converted 3 of his 6 break point opportunities while saving the only one he faced. Sinner will now face off against American Alex Michelsen in the next round after Michelsen came back to beat Alejandro Tabilo 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

More top seeds fell during the third round with Terence Atmane knocking off No. 7 Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 to reach just his second Masters 1000 round of 16.

The Frenchman was able to stave off 4 of 6 break points from Auger-Aliassime. No. 9 Daniil Medvedev fell to No. 18 Francisco Cerundolo 6-0, 4-6, 7-5 in a two-hour, 17-minute match.

Cerundolo dominated in the first set as he was able to return extremely well against Medvedev, winning 6 of 10 first service returns and also getting three break points.

Despite squandering the lead in the second set, Cerundolo was relentless and won 7 of 13 second serve return points and converted on 2 of 5 break points to ice the match.

“It was a great match, super tough,” Cerundolo said. “It was my first match against Daniil.

He’s probably one of the only guys on Tour who I have never played. I didn’t know what to expect.

He has had a great year so far, so I didn’t expect to be up 6-0 in the first set and a break up in the second. “Suddenly he started playing super good. But I kept believing and stayed there in the match. In the third set, it was a really good set from both and it ended up my way.”

The Argentinian will face No. 31 Ugo Humbert who beat Alexander Shevchenko 6-4, 7-6 (2).

Another upset took place with American No. 19 Frances Tiafoe winning a nearly three-hour match over No. 12 Jakub Mensik 7-6 (4), 6-4, 7-6 (11).

Tiafoe will match up with Atmane in the round of 16. German No. 3 Alexander Zverev took down Croatia’s Marin Cilic 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 and will face off with France’s Quentin Halys who defeated Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak 7-6 (4), 6-1.
