RIGHTS, JUSTICE, & ACTION FOR ALL WOMEN & GIRLS Dr. Tanzeem Fatima DOCTOR OF PHARMACY (PHARM-D) EDUCATIONIST

International Women’s Day is not merely a day of celebration; it is a powerful reminder of the ongoing struggle for equality, dignity, and opportunity for women and girls across the world. The theme for International Women’s Day 2026, “Rights, Justice, and Action,” calls upon societies to move beyond words and commit to meaningful change. It emphasizes that recognizing women’s rights is not enough; ensuring justice and taking concrete action are equally essential to build a fair and inclusive world.

Women today contribute significantly to every sphere of life—healthcare, education, science, leadership, and community development. However, despite these achievements, millions of women still face barriers such as limited access to education, healthcare inequalities, workplace discrimination, and social restrictions. Therefore, International Women’s Day serves as a collective call to empower women and girls so they can claim their rightful place in society.

The first pillar of this year’s theme is Rights. Every woman and girl deserves fundamental rights including access to education, health care, safety, and equal opportunities. Education plays a trans formative role in empowering women. When a girl is educated, she gains confidence, knowledge, and the ability to make informed decisions about her life. Educated women not only improve their own lives but also uplift their families and communities.

As an Educationist, I firmly believe that class rooms are among the most powerful spaces for shaping future generations. A teacher does more than deliver knowledge; they inspire confidence and nurture dreams. I have seen young girls enter classrooms with hesitation and limited self-belief, yet through encouragement and learning opportunities, they gradually develop into confident individuals who aspire to become doctors, scientists, entrepreneurs, and leaders. These transformations demonstrate that when girls are given the right to education, they gain the power to redefine their future.

The second pillar is Justice. Justice means ensuring that women receive fairness, protection, and respect in every aspect of life. Around the world, women continue to face gender-based discrimination, harassment, and inequality. Achieving justice requires strong laws, ethical leadership, and a change in societal attitudes.

In the healthcare sector, justice also means ensuring that women have equal access to quality medical care. As a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm-D), I have witnessed how access to propermedicationandpharmaceutical guidance and significantly improvethequalityof life for women. For instance, women often neglect their own health while prioritizing their Family’s. Many delay medical consultations or ignore symptoms due to lack of awareness or social constraints. Healthcare professionals have a responsibility not only to provide treatment but also to educate women about preventive care, medication safety, and health awareness.

One practical example is the importance of educating women about maternal health and medication use during pregnancy. Proper pharmaceutical counseling can prevent complications and ensure healthier outcomes for both mother and child. Similarly, spreading awareness about diseases such as anemia, osteoporosis ,and hormonal disorders can help women take control of their health. When healthcare systems prioritize women’s health needs, justice becomes a reality rather than just an ideal.

The third and most crucial pillar of this theme is Action. Rights and justice cannot be achieved without collective action. Action requires individuals, institutions, and governments to take practical steps that create opportunities for women and girls.

Action can begin at the most basic level within families and communities. Encouraging girls to pursue education, supporting women’s careers, and respecting their decisions are powerful steps toward equality. Schools can promote gender-inclusive learning environmentswherebothboysandgirlsaretaughtthevaluesof respect, cooperation, and equality.

In professional environments, action means creating workplaces that value women’s contributions, provide equal opportunities for leadership, and ensure safe and respectful working conditions. Mentorship programs, skill development initiatives, and scholarships for girls in science and healthcare fields can help bridge existing gender gaps.

As both a healthcare professional and an educationist, I consider it my responsibility to contribute through knowledge sharing, mentorship, and advocacy. Guiding students, especially young girls, to believe in their potential is one of the most meaningful forms of action. When a student gains confidence in her abilities and begins to pursue her dreams with determination, it becomes a small yet powerful victory for women’s empowerment.

International Women’s Day is also a moment to appreciate the countless women who quietly shape the world every day—mothers nurturing families, teachers guiding students, healthcare professionals saving lives, and community leaders advocating for change. Their dedication often goes unrecognized, yet their impact is profound.

However, empowerment is not solely a women’s responsibility. True progress requires the support of men, institutions, and communities working together to eliminate equality. Gender equality benefits everyone because when women thrive, families prosper, economies grow, and societies become more stable and progressive.

Let this Women’s Day inspire us to support, uplift, and empower every woman and girl. By investing in their education, protecting their rights, ensuring justice, and encouraging bold action, we move closer to a future where equality is not an aspiration but a reality.

Because when women rise, humanity rises with them.
