ISLAMABAD: A local court on Wednesday sent a social media activist to jail on a 14-day judicial remand in a controversial tweet case registered against him by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).
Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah, while hearing the case, sent social activist Haider Saeed to jail. The Police produced the accused before the court seeking his eight-day physical remand. The court rejected the police’s request and sent him to jail.
Lawyer Sarar Masroof, Murtaza Turi and Zahid Bashir Dar appeared before the court on behalf of Hadir Saeed.
The FIR registered against the accused says, consequent upon the conclusion of the enquiry of the NCCIA, Cyber Crime Reporting Centre, Islamabad, it transpired that the accused Haider Saeed found sharing highly intimidating content on social media X.
Furthermore, a review of the accused’s broader social media activities reveals a deliberate pattern of conduct involving ridiculing and maligning State Institutions with the clear intent to instigate public discontent.
These activities were designed to erode public trust in constitutional bodies and incite societal unrest.
