LAHORE: The Punjab government is ensuring uninterrupted supply of subsidised flour across the province ahead of Ramazan with distribution continuing through 9,901 shops and 1,549 designated sale points, Director General Food Punjab, Amjad Hafeez, said on Wednesday.
Sharing the latest statistics, the DG Food said a total of 1.073 million flour bags were supplied across the province during the past 24 hours. Of these, the Lahore division received 189,000 bags of 10kg each and 91,736 bags of 20kg each.
In Rawalpindi division, a combined total of 130,000 bags of 10kg and 20kg flour were supplied, while Multan division received 72,974 bags of 10kg and 13,841 bags of 20kg flour. Gujranwala division was supplied with 106,000 flour bags from flour mills to the market. Similarly, 158,000 bags of 10kg and 20kg flour were delivered to Faisalabad division to ensure market stability and meet consumer demand. Amjad Hafeez reiterated that ensuring the availability of affordable and quality flour to the public remains the government’s top priority, particularly during Ramazan. He warned that hoarding, profiteering or any disruption in flour supply would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
“Acting on the directives of Chief Minister Punjab, the food department has accelerated flour supply operations to maintain adequate availability in the market and prevent shortages during the holy month,” he added. He said a province-wide crackdown against hoarders and profiteers is underway, and strict legal action is being taken against violators without any leniency. The food department, he maintained, remains vigilant to maintain price stability and uninterrupted supply of essential commodities during the holy month.
