ISLAMABAD: Human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari and her husband Hadi Ali Chattha on Saturday filed miscellaneous appeals in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against their convictions by a trial court in controversial tweets case on January 24, 2026.
In their appeals, they said that the court did not complete legal formalities, and that it gave the decision despite the fact that the petition for the transfer of the case was pending in the high court.
Legally, the appeals read, a decision could not be given as long as the petition for the case transfer was pending in court.
Furthermore, it was stated that the court ignored transparency by snatching the right to defence from the defendants.
It was also written in the appeals that the defendants were tortured at the time of their arrests while they were on their way to the court, and that the court did not look into the allegation.
The appellants prayed to the IHC to declare the trial court’s verdict null and void. They also requested that they be granted bail by suspending the court’s decision. A trial court had awarded 17-year prison terms to Imaan and Hadi each.
Also on Saturday, Imaan and Hadi were not produced in an anti-terrorism court in a case of torture on policemen despite the completion of judicial remand.
