Parliament House: Dr Komal Lalwani appointed to oversee healthcare of lawmakers
ISLAMABAD: In a landmark move that underscores both professional excellence and inclusive representation, the federal government has appointed Dr Komal Lalwani, a young Hindu doctor from rural Sindh, to oversee the healthcare of lawmakers at Parliament House.
Dr Lalwani, who completed her MBBS at a medical college in interior Sindh, succeeds Dr Meena Mahak, who was recently promoted and transferred to a hospital in Karachi.
Officials in Parliament House confirmed that appointments to this role follow a rigorous selection process, with candidates assessed on their professional qualifications from the Federal Government Services Hospital (FGSH) in Islamabad.
The appointment has been hailed as a significant step towards enhancing the representation of minority women in federal institutions, while also reinforcing the government’s commitment to diversity within the health sector.
Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal, who himself hails from an urban Sindh background, has praised the move as an exemplary instance of meritocracy and inclusivity.
Political observers view this as a defining moment in amplifying the voice of underrepresented communities – particularly those from rural Sindh – within the corridors of power.
With Dr Lalwani’s appointment, not only will parliamentarians gain access to high-quality medical care, but it also represents a broader commitment to ensuring that minority groups and rural areas are better represented in key national institutions.
