ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday said the government would launch more development projects, including the construction of a state-of-the-art cricket stadium, in the federal capital.
The minister made these remarks while presiding over a meeting at the Capital Development Authority (CDA), where ongoing development projects were reviewed and new initiatives were approved for public convenience.
Naqvi directed the CDA to present the final design for the proposed cricket stadium within 10 days. The meeting also decided to further expand the Safe City Project in Islamabad to enhance security and surveillance.
To improve traffic flow, it was decided to construct a “Smart Underpass” at Kashmir Chowk, with instructions to submit the final design within 10 days.
The meeting also approved plans to hire renowned companies for the construction of a five-star hotel in Islamabad. Details of long-vacant commercial plots were sought, while a special team will be formed to hire a solid waste management company. Land has also been allocated for the headquarters of various law enforcement agencies.
The interior minister emphasized that operations against encroachments would continue with full force, adding that reclaimed land would be utilized in the public interest. Proposals for the construction of a new convention centre in the capital were also discussed.
Additionally, the meeting reviewed plans to allocate land for the headquarters of the Federal Constabulary, Rangers, and Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP).
Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Inspector General of Police Islamabad Ali Nasir Rizvi, Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon, Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Qazi Ali Raza, and other senior officials attended the meeting.
