ISLAMABAD: Vehicles without an M-tag will be banned from entering Islamabad from the 1st of next month, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced during a visit to the Safe City headquarters.
According to an official report today, the minister made the declaration while directing officials to expedite work on the Capital Smart City project. He was accompanied by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhary.
Naqvi described the Capital Smart City initiative as a model project intended to establish Islamabad as the nation’s safest city.
He outlined that the scheme will integrate essential civic facilities, including Rescue 1122, traffic management, and security, into a single centralised system.
The minister also conveyed his intention for the smart city concept to eventually be extended across the entire country.
To advance the initiative, he sought a comprehensive plan from the officials concerned to manage the transition from the current Safe City to a fully operational Capital Smart City.
During the engagement, the Inspector General of Islamabad Police delivered a detailed briefing on the issues and complexities related to the project’s evolution.
The minister also took the opportunity to review the existing monitoring system and inspect the security surveillance at the special Chinese desk within the control room.
