LAHORE: The Punjab Agriculture department is formulating a comprehensive action plan to promote the cultivation of tomatoes and onions across the province with a particular focus on expanding off-season production to ensure continuity and stability in supply.
The strategy was discussed at a consultative meeting held here on Thursday under the chairmanship of Punjab Minister for Agriculture Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani. Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture Usama Khan Laghari, Secretary Agriculture Punjab Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, Director Generals Agriculture Naveed Asmat Kahloon and Chaudhry Abdul Hameed, along with senior departmental officers, attended the meeting.
The participants held detailed deliberations on preparing a structured plan for tomato and onion cultivation, aimed at reducing seasonal shortages and price volatility.
Addressing the meeting, Kirmani said that promoting innovation, modern farming practices and high-value agriculture was a key priority of the Punjab government under the vision of chief minister Punjab. He said the government aims to ensure uninterrupted tomato production in the province for at least six months.
