LAHORE: The Punjab government is committed to providing the best, quality and free treatment to the people and new landmark projects are being introduced for cancer, stroke and adult cardiac surgery.

Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique said that under the Chief Minister’s Children’s Heart Surgery Program, more than 9,023 innocent children have been provided completely free of cost heart surgeries across the province at a cost of billions of rupees.

An important meeting was held in the Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department under the chairmanship of Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique regarding the Chief Minister’s Children’s Heart Surgery Program, Chief Minister’s Dialysis Program and Chief Minister’s Special Initiative for Transplant Program.

Khawaja Salman Rafique was briefed during the meeting about the monitoring framework, service delivery and steps taken for patient convenience.

Khawaja Salman Rafique stressed the importance of ensuring transparency in new and unique health projects, improving the quality of service and ensuring the convenience of patients.

Under the Chief Minister’s Children’s Heart Surgery Program, 370 children from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 222 from Azad Kashmir, 94 from Islamabad, 26 from Balochistan, 26 from Gilgit-Baltistan and 21 from Sindh have been given completely free of cost cardiac surgeries. Under the Chief Minister’s Special Initiative for Transplant Program, 998 transplants have been performed so far, including 523 renal transplants, 278 cochlear, 166 liver, 16 bone marrow and 15 corneal transplants. Under the Chief Minister’s Dialysis Program, more than 1.11 million patients have been completely free of cost dialysis. More than 31,260 thousand patients have been registered in hospitals for dialysis under the Dialysis Program so far.

The provincial health minister said that we want the common man to benefit as much as possible from these new health programs.

Secretary, Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Azmat Mahmood Khan said that all possible steps will be taken for further improvement of the health sector. He said that maximum facilities should be provided to patients in the M-paneled hospitals. Instructions have been given to resolve the problems faced by patients in the empaneled hospitals on priority basis.
