ISLAMABAD: Armed dacoits, robbers, and carjacking gangs deprived dozens of citizens of gold, cash, mobile phones, motorcycles, and cars in various parts of the city during the last week.

According to data gathered by Business Recorder, police registered over 55 cases of various crimes, including 39 cases of vehicle theft, five cases of street crime (snatching of mobile phones and cash at gunpoint), eight cases of robbery, two cases of murder, and one road accident in which two girls lost their lives.

Of the 39 vehicles stolen by carjackers in the jurisdiction of different police stations, six were cars and 33 were motorbikes.

During the period under review, criminal activity was most frequent within the limits of the Margalla, Industrial Area, Khanna, Humak, Karachi Company, Lohi Bher, and Bani Gala police stations.

One of the most shocking incidents occurred within the limits of the Secretariat Police Station, where a 16-year-old Mohammed Abuzar Rakhi, son of Justice Muhammad Asif of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), was reportedly driving a white SUV that hit and killed two young women—Samreen Hussain and her friend Tabinda Batool—who were riding a scooter at Secretariat Chowk opposite the Metro Station.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the police, the victims were returning from the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) when their scooter was struck by the speeding white V8 vehicle.

During the last week, the Margalla Police Station registered two robbery cases and five other cases. The Industrial Area Police registered four cases of auto theft and two cases of robbery, while Khanna Police Station registered one robbery case and five cases of vehicle theft.

Furthermore, the Humak Police Station registered three motorcycle theft cases and one car theft, Karachi Company Police Station registered one street crime case, one car theft, and one motorcycle theft, while in the limits of Lohi Bher Police Station, robbers struck at one location and auto thieves stole two motorbikes.
