PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi has claimed that PTI founding chairman Imran Khan has been kept in complete isolation since November 4, and no one is being allowed to meet him.
Addressing a press conference at the CM House here, he said that neither his sisters, nor party leadership, nor lawyers, nor doctors are being allowed to meet him. He said that he himself had gone to Adiala Jail a few days ago and demanded that at least a two minute meeting be allowed for anyone, but despite court orders, this legitimate demand was completely ignored.
He announced that on Tuesday all parliamentarians will first go to the Islamabad High Court and thereafter proceed to Adiala Jail to express solidarity with Khan’s sisters.
The Chief Minister further stated that it has been decided in the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will strongly pursue its rightful claim in the NFC meeting scheduled for December 4.
He made it clear that while the administrative merger of the former FATA has taken place, the financial merger has not yet been completed, which is a great injustice to the province. He said that from 2018 to 2025, the province has not been given its rightful share under the NFC.
He said the Constitution states that the NFC share must be distributed among all four provinces, but half of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is not included in it because the merged districts have not yet undergone financial merger and have not been included in the share.
The Chief Minister said that all parliamentary leaders of political parties will also be taken into confidence because this issue does not pertain to any single party or the present provincial government alone, but pertains to the entire province.
To a question, the Chief Minister said that the provincial government is following a path of peaceful protest to achieve justice.
In response to another question, Afridi said that it is due to good governance and service delivery in the province that PTI has formed the government for the third time. Therefore, instead of propagating against the provincial government, the federal government should focus on their own performance.
In response to a question regarding law and order, the Chief Minister said that they have repeatedly made it clear that if the solutions being proposed by them are implemented, peace can be restored and sustained in the country. Unfortunately, decisions taken behind closed doors have always harmed peace.
He demanded that a durable and effective policy be formulated by bringing the provincial government and all stakeholders together so that a permanent solution for peace can be achieved.
