LAHORE: The Oil Marketing Association of Pakistan (OMAP) has strongly condemned a series of misleading and politically motivated advertisements targeting the country's petroleum sector, describing them as an organized attempt to create confusion and disrupt investor confidence.
The statement follows a formal letter from OMAP to the Chairman of the Special Investment Facilitation Council highlighting concerns about campaigns aimed at sabotaging ongoing and future Foreign Direct Investment in Pakistan.
OMAP Chairman Tariq Wazir Ali termed the campaign irresponsible and against Pakistan's national economic interest, emphasizing that the country cannot afford actions that damage the reputation of key industries during a critical period of economic recovery. He stressed that Pakistan welcomes every legitimate investor and warned that attempts to damage the credibility of the energy sector through fabricated claims would not be allowed to derail national progress.
The Association emphasized that Pakistan's downstream petroleum sector operates under strict regulatory oversight with full compliance to laws enforced by OGRA, the Ministry of Energy, and relevant financial institutions.
OMAP highlighted that Foreign Direct Investment in the oil and energy ecosystem has brought transformational benefits to Pakistan, with major international partners including Total Parco, Gunvor, Shell-Wafi, GO-Aramco, BE-Caltex, and Admore-Puma already operating in the country.
OMAP has called upon national institutions to investigate and address deliberate misinformation campaigns under relevant laws while confirming its full cooperation with the government to strengthen economic confidence and safeguard Pakistan's global credibility.
