ISLAMABAD: The opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday expressed outrage over the swirling rumours concerning the health and well-being of jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, following more than a week of a mysterious ban on meetings with his family and party members.

In a statement, PTI spokesman Sheikh Waqas Akram issued a stern warning, declaring that the nation would no longer tolerate any ambiguity regarding the former prime minister’s health and well-being.

He demanded that the government immediately grant access to party leadership, family members, and legal representatives to meet with Khan to dispel growing concerns.

The party condemned the “illegitimate” government’s continued obstruction, accusing it of deliberately isolating Khan and fuelling “ghastly rumours” about his health.

“The nation has lost all trust in the statements issued by this unelected regime,” Akram said. “We demand full transparency and the immediate cessation of this illegal isolation. It is a blatant violation of his constitutional and human rights, and it must end now.”

PTI has been vocal in its criticism of the current administration’s refusal to allow Khan’s family and legal team to visit him, claiming that he has been held incommunicado for 23 days.

Akram described the government’s actions as a direct assault on Khan’s rights, fuelling suspicion and distrust both within Pakistan and abroad.

“The continued secrecy only deepens the nation’s anger and mistrust of this regime,” he added. “It is clear that the government is hiding something, and the people will not stand for it. If anything happens to Imran Khan, the rulers will be held fully accountable.”

The PTI further called on the government and the Ministry of Interior to urgently clarify the rumours about Khan’s health and security.

He demanded an immediate meeting between Khan and his family, as well as a chance for party leaders, including the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sohail Afridi, to verify his condition.

“We are demanding the truth,” he said. “The government must allow the facts to be known, or it will be held responsible for any reaction that follows. Public anxiety is reaching the breaking point.”

Meanwhile, Imran Khan’s son, Kasim Khan, said his father has been under arrest for 845 days and kept in solitary confinement for the past six weeks with “zero transparency.”

In a post on X, he said that Khan’s sisters had been denied visits despite court orders, and that there had been “no phone calls, no meetings and no proof of life,” leaving his family with no contact.

Kasim called the blackout a deliberate attempt to hide his father’s condition and warned the government and its “handlers” would be held accountable for his safety.

He urged the international community and human rights organisations to demand proof of life, enforce court ordered access and end what he called the inhumane, politically motivated isolation of the former prime minister.
