A marginal gain

Published Updated

KARACHI: Pakistan rupee posted marginal gain for another week as it appreciated by Re0.11 or 0.04 percent against the US dollar in the inter-bank market.

The local unit closed at 281.26, against 281.37 it had closed the week earlier against the greenback, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb during the previous week said Pakistan was ‘well-positioned’ to repay a USD1.3 billion Eurobond maturing in April 2026. The assurance came as the federal minister highlighted improved macroeconomic stability and a more predictable financing outlook.

Meanwhile, Pakistan successfully repaid its $500 million Eurobond that matured on September 30, 2025, the Ministry of Finance announced.

The headline inflation clocked in at 5.6 percent on a year-on-year (YoY) basis in September 2025, showed Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) data, a reading significantly higher than the Finance ministry’s estimate of 3.5-4.5 percent.

The foreign exchange reserves held by the SBP increased by $21 million on a weekly basis, reaching USD14.4 billion as of September 26, 2025.

Total liquid foreign reserves stood at USD19.8 billion, while net foreign reserves held by commercial banks were recorded at USD5.4 billion.
