ISLAMABAD: Under the leadership of Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain and the guidance of Federal Secretary, the Ministry of National Food Security and Research is organizing a national workshop on ‘Deregulating the Wheat Sector’ on Friday, 24 January 2025 at a local hotel, said a press release.

The workshop will focus on developing a comprehensive strategy for deregulating the wheat market while ensuring strategic reserves and food security.

This significant initiative comes as part of the government’s commitment to structural reforms under the ongoing IMF programme. It aims to transition from traditional procurement practices and introduce innovative solutions to maintain wheat reserves in a deregulated market.

Representatives from all four provinces, including provincial food secretaries and experts, have been invited to present their strategies. These presentations will address key challenges and propose actionable solutions for managing wheat reserves and ensuring food security.

Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain emphasised, “This workshop reflects our government’s dedication to ensuring food security in the country while reforming the agricultural sector to meet modern demands.”

Federal Secretary of the Ministry added, “We aim to achieve a balanced and deregulated wheat market through collaboration with provinces and regions. This workshop will serve as a critical platform for discussing innovative ideas and strategies.”

The ministry has made arrangements to provide accommodation and travel expenses for outstation participants to ensure their active participation.

The Ministry of National Food Security and Research reaffirms its commitment to ensuring sustainable agricultural reforms that benefit all stakeholders. This workshop is a vital step in fostering collaboration between the federal and provincial governments to create a transparent and efficient wheat market. The Ministry looks forward to active participation from all provinces and relevant stakeholders to achieve shared goals for the nation’s food security.
