HONG KONG: A Cathay Pacific flight from London to Hong Kong made an emergency landing in Moscow Saturday after smoke was detected in the cockpit, the airline said, the second smoke-related incident in a month.
Hong Kong's flag carrier said the Boeing 747-400, which left London late Friday local time, was carrying 197 passengers and 21 crew. There were no injuries, it said.
"Our preliminary information indicates that after about four hours and 10 minutes of the flight journey, the captain decided to divert the flight to Moscow because smoke was detected in the cockpit," Cathay said in a statement.
Earlier this month, Cathay aborted a take-off at Shanghai's Pudong International Airport after smoke was detected in the cabin, forcing an evacuation of the aircraft and leaving nine injured.
