Countries call for French products boycott after Macron's anti-Islamic rhetoric

A number of countries around the world have started boycotting French products, after French President Emmanuel Macron's anti-Islamic rhetoric and inflammatory statements.

As per reports, trade associations in several Arab countries have announced a boycott of French products in protest of Macron's anti-Islamic remarks.

In this regard, a social media campaign with the hashtag #BoycottFrenchProducts has been calling for a boycott of French products from supermarkets in Arab countries and Turkey.

Furthermore, countries including Kuwait, Qatar, Palestine, Egypt, Algeria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and other countries are also campaigning with Arab hashtags.

The chairman of Kuwait's Al-Naeem Cooperative Society announced that the company has decided to boycott French products and remove French products from all supermarkets.

"All French products have been removed from all Consumer Cooperative Societies," said Fahd Al Kishti of Qatar’s Union of Consumer Co-operative Societies, which groups more than 70 establishments, to Reuters, adding that the move was in response to "repeated insults" against the Prophet and had been taken independently of Kuwait's government.

Meanwhile, a major Qatari company announced a boycott of French products, replacing them with alternative products, while Qatar's stock company Almeira also immediately boycotted French products.

Whereas, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), an organization of Gulf states, also called the French president's statement irresponsible and said Macron's aim was to spread hatred among the people.

Recently, French President Emmanuel Macron accused Muslims of separatism and vowed not to give up cartoons depicting Prophet Muhammed.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Minister of France in a statement has appealed to the Gulf countries to take immediate steps to end the boycott of its products. The French Foreign Minister said that these demands of the boycott are baseless and attacks by the fundamentalist's minority against its country should immediately stop.
