Keel laying ceremony of MILGEM Class Corvette for PN held

(Karachi) The Keel laying ceremony of MILGEM Class Corvette for Pakistan Navy held at the Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works (KS&EW), a statement issued by Pakistan Navy stated on Sunday.

A spokesperson of Pakistan Navy said that Minister of National Defence of the Republic of Turkey, H.E Mr. Hulusi Akar was the chief guest of the ceremony. The ceremony was attended by Minister for Defence Production, Ms Zubaida Jalal and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi.

The PN spokesperson said that the corvette will be technologically most advanced platforms equipped with state of the art weapons and modern sensors. The vessel will contribute to maintaining peace, security & balance of power in IOR.

The state-of-the-art ship will be equipped with modern weaponry and sensors. Under the transfer of technology agreement signed between Pakistan and Turkey, two of the four ships will be constructed at Karachi shipyard.

The MILGEM Class Corvettes will be state-of-the-art Surface platform equipped with a modern surface, subsurface and anti-air weapons, sensors and Combat Management System. These ships will be among the most technologically advanced platforms of Pakistan Navy and will significantly contribute in maintaining peace, stability and balance of power in the Indian Ocean Region.
